This student must not have had a tight relationship with his parents. Why didn’t he discuss this with them, assuming he didn’t. My parents would have sized up the situation instantly, and insisted any such ‘gifts’ be returned immediately. No one gives away over $50K in ‘presents’ without expecting something in return.

That’s exactly what child predators are looking for. Minors that come from broken homes who can be exploited and victimized.
