In looking at it, what doesn’t make sense is what Flynn admitted he lied about. There really was no reason for lying.
Something else is afoot.
If Obama approved Flynn, then everybody on the Flynn branch is off the hook.

Clearly, Flynn was too arrogant for his own good.
Talking to the FBI about anything without a lawyer is the most baffling to me.
Flynn understood the political harm of admitting to contact with the Russians, something his boss, Trump, openly stated did not happen.
So he was covering for Trump and now is a convicted felon and facing 5 years. You can bet he will toss as much dirt as he can.
