White House counselor Kellyanne Conway has been chosen to be President Trump's "opioid czar."
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Wednesday that the former pollster will supervise the White House's efforts to combat opioid addiction. "The president has made this a White House priority," Sessions said. "He's asked her to coordinate and lead the effort from the White House."
Trump declared opioid abuse a national public health emergency in October. Federal data shows opioids such as heroin, fentanyl, and prescription painkillers kill 71 Americans a day.
"She is exceedingly talented," Sessions continued about Conway. "She understands messaging."

The news of Conway's new role comes just hours after the Washington Examiner reported that Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., who is chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, declared that he opposed having Trump appoint an "opioid czar" to oversee efforts to tackle the epidemic. Instead, he said he preferred the job fall to the health and human services secretary.

Isn’t the word ‘Czar’ for American purposes the creation of Barry Soetoro?
Under Reagan, Bill Bennett was “Drug Czar”, I think.
She’s only done great things since coming onto the scene. Country is fortunate that she would take on such a job.
No, it’s a Duopoly drug war term that predates Obama by quite a bit. Nixon and GWHB get the credit or blame, depending on one’s view of failed big government programs.
Uh, what’s the feminine of Czar?
Czarova? Czaress? Czarina?
Just axin.
How much of the heroin flooding this country is coming from the muslim middle east? Could this be a concerted plan to attack America?
No. The media coined the term "Energy Czar" back in Nixon's day.
If they want to get serious about this, institute the death penalty for pushers. The Reward to Risk ratio would start to get pretty darn low. But, that won’t happen, of course.
Goes back to Franklin Roosevelt.
Probably a newspaper headline writer creation as ‘economic czar’ makes better headline than ‘Director of the Office of Economic Stabilization’ or the mysterious ‘DOES’.
They should do the same for the doctors that cause the need for the opioid. My wife has had chronic pancreatitis since her doctor incorrectly sliced her pancreatic duct over 5 years ago. The recurrent visits to the hospital where she has to stay (sans food) for over a week, coupled with having to find a pharmacist that will fill her prescriptions has been a living nightmare.
This problem is scary difficult. Fentanyl analogs are easy and cheap to manufacture as well as smuggle.
In Phoenix right now, the city is trying, successfully or not, if they are legally able to or not, if it is a good idea or not, to regulate the unlicensed “sober houses” that are sprouting up like mushrooms. They are like halfway houses for addicts who know they cannot integrate back yet, and need to be surrounded by others mutually determined to stop taking opiates.
Narcan (Naloxone), a temporary opiate blocker for weaker opiates, like heroin, morphine, etc., is in full production, with cases of it being issued to paramedics, firemen, police, etc. In several states it is legal for OTC sale from drug stores.
Several states are now suing smaller drug makers over opiate marketing and sales. If they win, perhaps giant class action suits are already being planned for big pharma.
Thanks all . . . I should have known that.
At any rate . . . I could live the rest of my days without hearing it again.
Actually I’m surprised the media isn’t accusing him of another Russian collusion for the use of the word.
I think Mister Dutarte from the Philippines has the right idea in dealing with drugs.
Czarina I believe.
kind of ridiculous to have a czar for just this one addiction. especially since all addiction has similar root.
Praying Trump and his admin keep listening to God and find ways to implement God’s ways into our govt and country’s problems, though maybe not always wording it as God’s ways since too many blind souls among us, even leading some churches, would disagree with God’s ways.
YES! and she is not qualified to boot. They can’t even FIRE and REVOKE the liscenses of bad VA Docs, who if they get fired just go private or to a public hospital! And you can’t rely on those Online reviews they have employees access and leave reviews.
Does she know the difference in INTRACTABLE PAIN and CHRONIC PAIN....WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. They held a drug summit, NO PATIENT INPUT! FDA won’t admit to the other ADDICTIVE DRUGS only Opioids. Nor will they remove those drugs from the market.
What about all these OD’s done with ILLEGAL DRUGS pouring across our POROUS MEX border and from China? It is not Legal Opioids that are the real issue, unless they are stolen or sold. Way to many of these Pain Clinic docs/employees sell them too to STREET JUNKIES/DEALERS.
One of the highest respected researchers on addiction and pain there is:

Thanks.
Czar is Polish origin. There is a czarina but we never use it for a female government czar. I use and prefer tsar and tsarina as this is the romanticized spelling of the Cyrillic word.
The things you learn when teaching a class on The Great Patriotic War and now preparing a class on the Russian Revolution, Russian Civil War and Russo-Polish War 1920.
I knew we would end up here thanks to this stupid war. The Street will have plenty of opiods and the sick will get none.
