Gutierrez seemed to be mapping out was the type of campaign that could be used to hold the Democratic Party accountable for its commitments to the nations immigrant and Latino communities, instead of what he sees as a party that abandons them when it becomes inconvenient.
It wouldnt be the kind of campaign where hes trying to win the nomination so much as a campaign to collect delegates and carry the cause of the immigrant community to the convention.
For a comparison, think of the Rev. Jesse Jacksons groundbreaking presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988, when he energized black voters and used that as leverage to gain power within the party.
What Gutierrez did say Tuesday is that rather than retire hes going to travel the country meeting with immigration groups to build a party infrastructure thats going to make sure were ready to win in 2020.
Im going to have conversations and dialogues. Youve heard this before, Gutierrez said.
Yes, weve heard that kind of talk before from people wanting to run for president.
During his news conference, Gutierrez ruled out running for mayor of Chicago or governor of Illinois. He even ruled out running for governor of Puerto Rico, which I had considered a real possibility.
I waited around afterward with a small group of reporters to ask one more question.
Are you ruling out running for president?
Im not, Gutierrez said. And then he left.

I thought it was humorous, not funny.
I apologize.

I apologize.
When the names of the sex abuses who used taxpayer dollars to pay off the women are announced, Guttierrez will be a civilian.
I was about to say: “Leave knarf alone! He a good boy. He dint do nuffin.”
Don’t have to apologize to me. I just added “white” to my tagline. It’s OK to be white. But we don’t want to become anons.
Thank you. Believe me, I understand what you said.
Good point.
If, G-d forbid, this corrupt piece of excrement were elected, we might as well toss Old Glory and run up the Messycan flag.
“If, G-d forbid, this corrupt piece of excrement were elected, we might as well toss Old Glory and run up the Messycan flag”.
That’s right.
Let me see...he is running for President? Of Mexico??? If it is for Trump’s seat...I will see a landslide for Mr. President, who is the best President of my lifetime. (OK, I was only alive for Bush, Obama and Trump, it no contest.)
Nice response. You’re a good person with integrity.
Run him, he will lose and it will be embarrassment.
Hummm, This LaRaze stooge forgot one thing...
Many Latino’s aren’t Communist and aren’t buying his swill..
I always find it humorous that people still think we are living in the 80's
This country will never see a 49 state electoral college win again...
The progressives have done too great a job indoctrinating the last two generations...
They won't vote for Trump if he cured cancer...
By 2020 several more states will have slide over to the purple color to make that impossible.
He is actual a celebrity to the Puerto Ricans and has been making an opportunistic play to court illegals from Mexico and Central America. It has been my experience that despite sharing a language Mexicans and Puerto Ricans do not get along to well.
I know many Latinos who bridle at being called “Hispanic” when they themselves choose to identify with their actual nations. I have also been told by Mexicans that Puerto Ricans do not speak Spanish properly.
He would be worse the obozo and hitlery combined.
I hope that he’ll run, since he’ll help divide the primary vote and cause Democrats to continue to argue during their primary. The last democrat, who had been a U.S. rep., and got their presidential nomination, was Al Gore. Their last non-incumbent presidential nominee, who had been a U.S. rep., was John Kennedy.
