Cherokee do not refer to themselves as “Cherokee”


I had one tell me that “Cherokee” is impossible to pronounce in their language.

The word “Cherokee” came from the white man bastardizing the word “Tsalagi” (the “ts” is sounded “cha”)...

The Muskogee Creek called Ani-Yun-Wiya the Tsalagi, which in their language meant “people of different tongue”...
