Donald Trump's attacks on broadcaster CNN are an "an outrageous assault" on freedom of speech, according to former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director Michael Hayden.

“If this is who we are or who we are becoming, I have wasted 40 years of my life,” the former spy chief, who now works as a national security analyst for the broadcaster, said in a Twitter post.

General Hayden, who is also a former director of the National Surveillance Agency (NSA), added: "Until now it was not possible for me to conceive of an American President capable of such an outrageous assault on truth, a free press or the first amendment."

This is what "Draining the Swamp" looks like.

Trump's ability to make some of the more quiet swamp lurkers stand up and identify themselves borders on genius.

5 years ago, would we have ever known about this person? Unlikely, he'd just be another "authoritative voice" behind the scenes.

Let’s see, we’ve had 3 terms with 2 Bushes, 2 terms of Clinton and 2 with obambi so yeah, I suppose it is hard to conceive of a president with a pair. Now go f<@& yourself, general.

If this were 240 years ago, this perfumed prince would have been lamenting Burgoyne’s defeat at Saratoga at the hands of those upstart Colonials.

And just how can we be reassured of his past patriotism? He may have been in his own swamp all these years.

I don't believe you will be reassured at all.

Hayden did wast much of his life as a federal government bureaucrat. He also wasted billions of dollars in taxpayer money on his failed programs and helped create a corrupt environment within the federal government that failed to eliminate terrorism and failed to protect the American people.

He also appears to have lied under oath about his activities.

Just like Clinton, Clapper, Brennan and Comey.

To think nitwits like this guy are made generals and put in charge of security organizations. What a putz. He should self-exile to save us all the disgust he engenders by speaking.

Hayden was a hillary supporting dirtbag. His opinion is worthless. He is and was an embarassment to the air force.

So didn’t see Obama ignoring the Constitution so many times and his dealing with our enemies like Iran were as a problem??? Giving Russia control of 20% of our uranium was okay?

Hayden is just another perfumed prince former intel officer who was never deployed to a combat zone, but someway managed to make four star general. He managed to serve over 40 years without ever hearing a shot fired in anger. These do nothing officers were promoted left and right under Obama. Him and his buddy McPeak, both leftist blowhards give the Air Force a bad name.

When did the National Security Agency change into the National Surveillance Agency?

Michael Hayden wasted his life if he thinks an attack on a corrupt biased press outlet is the same as an attack on the first amendment.

Hey Michael Hayden YOU FOOL - if a President attacked a conglomerate of gun shops that were selling Chinese knock-offs pretending they were American made guns - WOULD YOU (MICHAEL HAYDEN) SEE THAT AS AN ATTACK ON THE SECOND AMENDMENT?

Trump's NOT attacking the idea of a free press he's attacking the corruption, bias and lies of the current press. Grow up Michael Hayden - spy on someone other than American citizens next time.

Many of these retired 4-Stars don’t really know anything about the Constitution they (hopefully) supported and defended for 40 years. They lived under UCMJ and they don’t know what it is to be a regular citizen.
