Donald Trump's attacks on broadcaster CNN are an "an outrageous assault" on freedom of speech, according to former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director Michael Hayden.
“If this is who we are or who we are becoming, I have wasted 40 years of my life,” the former spy chief, who now works as a national security analyst for the broadcaster, said in a Twitter post.
General Hayden, who is also a former director of the National Surveillance Agency (NSA), added: "Until now it was not possible for me to conceive of an American President capable of such an outrageous assault on truth, a free press or the first amendment."

The irony about statements from people like him claiming that Trump is circumventing the first amendment is that in reality Trump became POTUS precisely because millions and millions of people were having their first amendment rights, and their rights to equal representation in government suppressed and trounced on by wealthy media magnates with an agenda - along with the same Hollywood elite now being outed as sexual aggressors and perverts. What average citizen had the ability to compete with their monopoly of the airwaves, print media, and entertainment industry? Trump is giving back voice to those who have had theirs taken from them. This guy has no idea what the first amendment really represents.
