All or nothing at all -- three-quarters of a country never appealed to him, nor did the idea of a political entity called Northern Ireland that was created in 1920, comprising the six northeastern counties of Ireland in the province of Ulster. Gerry Adams is still adamant about the need for a united Ireland. As a political entity, the Republic of Ireland, first called the Irish Free State, was created in 1922. On November 18, 2017 the 69-year-old Adams, president since 1983 of Sinn Fein, the left-wing political party, announced that it was time for a change and that he would not run for another term in 2018, or seek re-election to the parliament of the Republic of Ireland, the Dail Eirean, which he represented in the border constituency of Louch.
Adams has been the dominant person in Irish republican politics for over 30 years, an individual whose activity made Sinn Fein, founded in 1905, a political force and a dominant group in the republican movement. He has been a major political figure, among other things an MP in the British Parliament for the constituency of West Belfast for a number of years. However, like his party colleagues he was an absentee from Westminster, unwilling to take his seat in order to avoid the obligatory House of Commons oath of loyalty to the Queen

Thanks for posting as it clarified something I found during a family tree search where an ancestor from mom’s side listed “Irish Free State” as the country of birth in a census book. It was cool to find out my Irish roots trace to the “auld sod” in just two generations.
He’s a friggin’ murderer. Jean McConnville.
Was she guilty? Seems pretty unclear.

Jean McConville timeline: how a 1972 murder returned to haunt Gerry Adams
Bkmrk.
Yes, that’s it. Thanks, Kaslin.
Who? Jean McConville was the victim. Adams was the killer. One of the worst IRA atrocities.
Was she relaying information to the British?
Jean McConville was ordered murdered by Sinn Fein’s Gerry Adams around 1972. She was a Catholic married to a Protestant but she helped an English soldier dying in the streets of Belfast. This upset Mr. Adams. He ordered the actor Stephen Rae’s wife (I forget her name) to pick her up in a car for interrogation. Although a mother of many children, she was dragged out of her bathtub and winded up dead and buried on a beach. This wife turned on Adams when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, I believe, and told of the murder. That was only a few years ago that she admitted it. Adams, of course, denies this.
I’ve read about her providing information to British authorities as well; I just don’t know enough of the facts (and I doubt most people do) to assume he’s guilty of anything.
There are plenty of books (Voices from the Grave is one) that have the lowdown on this terrible story. One day, Boston U will release those tapes. But I suspect Gerry will always be guilty as hell, free as a bird.
The IRA also supported the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
So all this time Sinn Fein has just been a bunch of closeted fags?
