If I say that “I think this post is trying to say ___ “ then I am not representing what he said, but rather representing what I understand.
In which case I not making a straw man argument.

So, you assume the argument to be fallacious and dismiss it, rather than consider that, because you assumption makes the argument fallacious, your assumption may be wrong?

Either way, you are the one introducing the fallacy.
