“I sincerely believe that the family of murder victims should be allowed 10 minutes with the convict, along with the tools or implements of their choice.”

There is some weird South Korean movie I watched that my son found that has a scene like that. They have the criminal in a room with all the victim’s family members and each member gets private time alone to wail on him. Forget the name of the movie.

When my kids were small and we went out somewhere, I was always armed. They were grown adults when they found out I carried a gun. Now two of my boys carry.

“Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.” CSA GEN George Casey on Diversity after the Ft Hood shooting- 8 NOV 2008

THE SAME WAY HE KILLED THE VICTIM...

This is one of the hardest things for me as a Christian to come to grips with, I should believe that all people are redeemable, but I can not help but think that some are born demon spawn and have hearts as black as the deepest depths of Hell.

Same here.

My father was a D.A. and I only ever knew a little bit about his work. I never even went to watch him in court (I didn’t think of it until after he’d passed away.), though I did contribute to his closing arguments one time when he needed a good sounding board.

All of that to say that I know you carried heavy burdens because of the job you did. We think mainly of the victims and their families when crimes occur and cases go to trial (as we should), but we often forget the police, rescue workers, detectives, prosecutors, judges and juries who must also deal with the crimes in various capacities. The prosecutors and the police/investigators, especially, have to witness the very worst of humanity, while shielding, in some ways, the victims’ families, and even the jurors, from the worst of the details. How any of you could avoid becoming completely cynical about this nation is beyond me.

Thank you for the job you did in prosecuting criminals, even—and especially—when the circumstances weighed heavily on you. The victims and their families are not the only ones who have to endure the “unimaginable” that you mentioned.

Or perhaps we could go "old school" and have evil people like this be drawn and quartered. I am sure the family would enjoy the opportunity to perform the procedure.

When I had my first child, I would have occasional nightmares about some criminal harming him. In my dreams, I would stand up in the courthouse, take out a pistol, and kill him dead on the spot.

P.S., not advocating violence :), just saying what most loving parents think. There is nothing that will come between my son and daughter and me or their dad.

That is how nature intended it. If not, most species (human beings, gorillas, lions, tigers and bears ("Oh My!) would have died out a long time ago.

We showed a video of the crime scene in Court; it was ghastly, to say the least. I told the victim’s family to not watch it (they had never seen it before). To be sure, I physically stood right in front of her mother so she could not see the video even if she wanted to.

That might have been the quietest 5 minutes I have spent in Court. Other than the gasps from some in the gallery, including the defendant’s family. The jury were troopers though. Not a peep out of them (during jury selection I’d warned them). Just a stony silence. We took a break for the day when that was done.

It’s worse than you think. Her father often went jogging with her, but for some reason, not that day. He will live the rest of his life thinking if only he had gone with her, his beloved daughter would still be alive. I’m not saying it’s true, but he will probably never truly be happy again.

So sad. I agree that sadly, the parents are not long for this world, unless they have other children or family close by who can sustain them.

He will, but should not, blame himself.

Perhaps FR can do something for them. Obviously, a daughter is irreplaceable, but perhaps we can reach out to them; perhaps create a GoFundMe account?

I will look into it. This is a terribly sad story.

It struck me when I first read about it, and for months I thought they would never catch the person who did it.

If DeBlasio had another son...

I wonder if old Wilhelm will give the kid a pardon, a scholarship to NYU and a new car to get him there. After all, he was about to turn his life around. All he needs is a boost (I’d say about 20,000 AMPS of a boost).

The legal code in the Old Testament would have condemned this man to death.

Jesus NEVER and the writers of the New Testament NEVER spoke out against the Roman Empire’s legal system which included horrific, torturous executions.

The state “does not bear the sword in vain” and functions as the instrument of God’s justice on Earth. You should not feel bad when truly guilty brutal killers are put to death legally by the state.

This young man would have had time to repent on his way to the gallows. Many criminals in the 19-century did just that.

Just my two-cents worth.
