You cannot kill Internet Regulation and allow one of the largest Internet carriers to go forward with the acquisition of content.

Carriers combined with Content Providers are the nightmare that anti-Trust law was made for.

Just like Drilling, Refining, Distribution and Retail of oil products that Standard Oil once did.

They set the “standard” of anti-Trust lol

The alternative is “Net Neutrality”...eternal regulation of a dynamic and evolving industry.

Just like Google should NOT be in Smart Phones, TV (Youtube etc.) or any other carrier or content offering ...because they control the “Search Function” and can favor their own products.

And, Amazon can never be allowed into the Search function.

The deeper issue imho is the political bias of these organizations—and their temptation to engage in censorship or tilting the playing field to favor whatever agenda they may have.

At the end of the day anti-trust may be needed to keep them small enough so they can’t do too much damage.

All I know is CNN is taking one up the shorts, and it makes me smile.

In fact, this could end up forcing Comcast to spin off NBC Universal and Disney to spin off ABC and ESPN.

As well they should. Separation of content and conduit is a basic principle to promote competition that benefits consumers. You don’t need excessive regulation if you adhere to basic principles of avoiding the inherent conflicts of interest that come with monopolies in the first place.

“At the end of the day anti-trust may be needed to keep them small enough so they can’t do too much damage.”

It’s required if we wish to preserve the Republic.

There are four major areas of media today, and no player should be an owner in more than one:
1. Content (news and entertainment or anything else)
2. Delivery (cable, internet, phone wires, satellite)
3. Search (any search or directory service)
4. Operating Systems/Devices (phones, computer OS, Computers, smart whatevers)

That makes for a heck of a lot of companies that need to be broken up and pieces sold off/spun off. Because they are the vertically integrated trusts of old around which the law was developed in necessity.

If separated along those high-level parameters we will not have to regulate them, nor keep tabs on their nefarious plots to control the world:)

Once upon a time there was a company that was deemed too big. Big,bad Bell Labs. So the government broke it up into many smaller companies. One of them was South Western Bell of St Louis.

After several decades it bought out AT&T and became AT&T. It grew and grew. It is now back at it's origin...Big, bad Bell Labs.

If we banned lobbying by anyone related to communications then we could save the Republic for several generations at least.

The president is accused of weighing in to stop the merger because of his hatred for CNN

Similarly, he is weighing in with the DOJ because of his hatred of Crocked Hillary.

He should be sitting idly by disregarding the rape of the American public
