A Professor Learns An Expensive Lesson About Civility And The First Amendment
Forbes ^ | November 20, 2017 | George Leef

A college professor is supposed to teach his subject and serve as a role model for students, especially when it comes to civility and respect for the rights of others. Often, however, professors feel justified in engaging in behavior that wouldn’t be tolerated in children, as a recent case at Fresno State University shows.

Last April, a group of students, members of Fresno State Students for Life (FSSL), sought and received permission from the university to exercise their rights of free speech by writing pro-life messages in chalk on the sidewalks leading to the university library. They had finished their messages on the morning of May 2 when Professor Gregory Thatcher came along and accosted them.

He stated that they could not chalk their messages on the sidewalk and had to confine their free speech activities to the “free speech zone” on campus. Obviously no fan of the principles of free speech, Thatcher was not aware that Fresno State had abandoned its “speech zone” policy almost two years before.

FSSL president Bernadette Tasy replied to Thatcher that her group had obtained permission to write messages on the sidewalk. He then announced that he would shortly return and erase their messages. He did, accompanied by several students from his 8 A.M. class (he teaches public health courses), eager volunteers in his sidewalk message battle.

When Tasy reminded him that they had full permission to do what they were doing, he and his students began erasing one of the FSSL messages. Thatcher said that in erasing the FSSL messages, he was exercising his own free speech rights. He also declared that “College campuses are not free speech areas.” One of Thatcher’s students, apparently inspired by their mentor, stole the chalk from an FSSL student and used it to write pro-abortion slogans.

Wellll, when you hire liberal, democrat SCUM,don’t be surprised at the outcome...I think all conservative,pro-life,republican students should sue for fraud...Colleges are a business, students the customers..They are paying for a product..
When the business isn’t honest with their customers about being bullied, harassed, hurt etc on campus, those customers were never informed about the violence on campus....Might have picked a different college,if they had been informed....Colleges need to put the information in their brochures BEFORE the student chooses that college....

Forbes (so far as I can tell) is not on the excerpt list, but does force you to let them past your adblocker (or connect to their site through one of the two NSA harvesting tools e.g. Google and Facebook). How about putting the rest of the article up here?

These people aren’t anything near a professor. It’s a joke to address them as a professor. They’re moronic and under developed children.

This moronic child was court ordered to pay $1000 to each of the students, court fees and attend a workshop. Now, if only the school would show him the door. Hopefully enough students will not take his courses so he is booted and has to explain his stupidity to future HR offices.

“They’re moronic and under developed children.”

That’s an understatement :p

Re the headline. Did I miss the part where the prof’s actions were expensive? All I read was that he erased all the pro-life messages and replaced them with infanticide ones....with chalk stolen from the pro-life kids. Oooooh. Bet THAT was painful for him. BS on FR. Not good.

The story I read on FR just before this one stated his insurance had to pay out $17K.

Notice how ingrained he is with the Newspeak 10th edition. His side has held absolute power in academia for so long he could not fathom any punishment for his crime. That is why he won't pay the fine. (other article)

If the chalk writing would have been pro-abortion he likely would have donated to their cause at the very least.

Rather curious of the poster to only post the parts showing the prof pillaging the pro-life students in hobnail boots; but keep any penalties on the ogre obscured on another page.

The other article was different, and had a lead that included the penalty. Because this article is excerpted, I suspect that the original author buried the lede outside the excerpting limit.

I wouldn’t blame the poster, but the author.

Yes, just another fascist, one of tens of thousands teaching across our once-great land.
Indoctrinated in pubic school, hard coded in college, rewarded at university.
God help America.
