President Donald Trump says he should have left three UCLA basketball players accused of shoplifting in China in jail.
Trump's tweet Sunday comes after the father of player LiAngelo Ball minimized Trump's involvement in winning the players' release in comments to ESPN.
"Who?" LaVar Ball told ESPN on Friday, when asked about Trump's involvement in the matter. "What was he over there for? Don't tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out."
Trump has said he raised the players' detention with Chinese President Xi Jinping (shee jihn-peeng) during the leaders' recent meeting in Beijing.
The players returned to the U.S. last week. They have been indefinitely suspended from the team.
Says Trump: "Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!"

A ten year sentence would have ended up being a year or so when the Chinese wanted to make nice down the road a bit and it may well have straightened out at least one of these guys. Especially since a black guy being in a Chinese prison would find out what real racism is like and have that to compare to fake BS they complain about constantly.

Except his tweets make him look so petty and juvenile that he is pretty much doing Hate Media’s job for them.
I’d prefer he use a method of communication with US citizens which was company agnostic.
They would likely have been among the better treated--which they would probably not thought was very wonderful.
In summary, I think we agree with Trump. Leaving them there would have been greatly more educational.
I would tend to think that they are indeed ingrates since none of them have said anything further after pop opened his mouth.
Also, it was no doubt mentioned during the negotiations with China. What did Trump have to give up or compromise on to get these boobs out of Chinese jail. Fewer concessions from China on North Korea? Concessions that might ultimately cost the lives of millions of South Koreans, Japanese, or Americans in Alaska, etc.
Rule number one when in a foreign country — respect the local laws and don't act like “stupid Americans.”

Trump is a counter-puncher. The issue was dead and gone until the Dad opened his piehole and said what Trump did was no big deal. As if the players were just stealing from the local mall rather than a Communist nation where there is barely a legal system and there are no "prisoner rights."
Now the Dad looks like a complete, ungrateful moron and it highlights the total disrespect of the law that some black people have.
