Five dead after gunman 'who was out on bond for stabbing a woman' goes on shooting rampage

That is unexpected. Who would have guessed that bail for an a violent criminal would turn out badly?

Hardley. Quite a bit on Heavy. Sounds like this was a mass shooting just waiting to happen and by the most likely felon in town.

That said, any time someone suggests removing their right to own and bear arms is thrown around, I have to get defensive. If you’re taking guns away, you’re taking a right away. And that makes someone a second class citizen. Very delicate ground there.

I would submit that the family of the Sulphur Springs TX killer should be prosecuted as accesories after the fact.

They knew about his Air Force history [domestic assault, jail. & a dishonorable discharge].

It's pretty common knowledge that domestic violence convictions remove your rights to firearms. Yet they did nothing.

I would have confronted him, and given him ONE warning, as a family member.

And I would have been watching him till I knew he puked them up.

“Because strict gun control works so well in California...”

Tehema County is one of 35 out of our 58 counties where it’s relatively easy to get a CACCW permit. But the real question is, what was he doing out on bail after a violent personal attack. If you want to attack California for something, make it on our relatively new criminal laws that have reduced a bunch of levels of crimes and added in a new level called “infractions.” Now in CA, property crimes that involve less than a $900 loss, are now infractions where cops have no choice but to issue a citation and let the perp go.

Crazy. But it makes the point that what good are laws if they’re not enforced?

Speaking as someone who had to live next to such a person for over a year (never fired a weapon, but always playing loud “Christian” rock music literally 24/7 and intermittently running around totally naked in the neighborhood yelling at the top of his lungs that the government was about to “nuke us all”, and coming to our door a few times to tell us “secrets” about the government, even one time saying to me “you better put your office on lockdown”) after calling the police on multiple occasions about such behavior, especially after the time he basically threatened to commit some act of violence where I work, the police told me “there’s nothing we can do if he isn’t a threat to himself or others when we come out to respond”.

Excuse me? Nothing you can do when I’m TELLING you he just threatened to shoot up my workplace? When multiple neighbors witness him up and down the block buck naked ranting about the government’s secret plan to bomb everyone in the Stone Age? There’s nothing you can do about such an obviously crazy person?

“Not unless he’s a present danger to himself or others”.

I said at that point, the last time I bothered calling, “you see this is what’s wrong with this country. With the laws in this country, instead of acting PRO-actively you act RE-actively, AFTER the violence has already occurred!” Then slammed the door and never bothered calling to report him again.

I felt bad later because ultimately it’s not their fault not the police’s fault. They are just enforcing the law as currently written. It’s the fault of every leftist lawmaker from the 60’s and 70’s that removed virtually all legal possibility to forcibly commit someone to a mental institution. It’s because of that severe legal handicap, that we now have at least the majority of all these mass shootings with such alarming frequency. (Not to mention of course the lack of God in society but that’s a more fundamental point). Legally speaking we’ve set ourselves up for these mass shootings.

Because the shooters “aren’t a threat to themselves or others”, until they are.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
