And a part of which denial I would not be able to make truthfully. When I was an 18 year old sailor my ship spent a couple of months (or maybe six weeks...memory fails) in the Bethlehem Steel drydock in Baltimore. I met and dated a number of girls and young women, usually the ice-cream parlor or a movie; couldn't afford much more. One of them got clingy, and we "made out" a few times; almost got lucky but fortuitous circumstances prevented it. Thank God! I met her older sister, who informed me she was thirteen!
Even though nothing happened, had she accused me I could have been in big trouble! I let her down as easily as I knew how, and her parent (single mom, divorcee) shipped her off to West Virginia to visit an aunt.
But yes, I did "date" a 13 year-old when I was a legal adult.
Why? On what basis.
It’s a whole lot easier to believe an accusation a day, a week, or a month after the alleged event that it is 38 years later. Particularly if the accusation is timed for 4-5 weeks before the election, just after mail-in voting starts so it’s too late to change the candidate on the ballot, and too late to get to the bottom of the story before voting closes.
The timing stinks to high heaven, along with the lockstep establishment response from both sides of the aisle. The shock from insiders is far stronger than the response for Clinton with DNA evidence, for various Kennedy rapists who were reported immediately, or for the typical Swamp Thing caught with his hand in the cookie jar. The story simply does not ring true. It’s kabuki theater.
There was legal and it was considered acceptable decades ago for older men to date 17 and 18-year olds.
It will be time to stop defending judge Roy Moore when one of these accusations is substantiated.
Until then, it’s all hearsay.

The point is that even now it’s not unusual to see younger women with older men. In the 70s, before divorce really took off most similar age women were married off for a man coming home from college, a tour in the military, and time in law school.
10 years or so wasn’t all that unusual, and we’re talking the south and we’re talking Alabama.
As a christian I believe in forgiveness and redemption. These allegations are almost 40 years old. Obviously the man has lived a good life and has good values. As a christian I judge him to be one of the best possible politicians of our day.
The biggest KDrama in Korea this year involved a successful 39-year old man (who also just happens to be an immortal demi-god like Achilles) meeting and falling in love with a 17 year old high school student. There was nothing raunchy about it at all (their meeting of course was ordained by fate and the gods), and of course in the end after many travails they marry and live happily ever after. The whole thing was rated G.
And maybe someone can bring up the Sound of Music?
Today it would be beyond the pale, but I remain unconvinced it was out of bounds in 1979 Alabama.
Moore may have his heart in the right place, but he was born with his foot in his mouth. I have never heard anyone less able to say what needs to be said to diffuse a controversy. He just keeps saying stupid things to make it WORSE. What the hell is wrong with him? Is he senile?
