There are people in Alabama who don’t like Moore. This kind of crap motivates Moore supporters and Christians who don’t like smear jobs in general, without motivating people to vote against Moore (There aren’t many Doug Jones enthusiasts out there, so the vote against Moore is purely negative).
Moore is over the worst of it, and outside of Trump himself, is very well positioned to parlay this into a bigger win, as most people have to be heavily motivated to come out to vote in a mid-December special election. The Washington Post, Politico and CNN are playing this exactly wrong, and at this point are only motivating Moore’s base.
Moore WILL raise more money, now. Jones may raise some, too, but he is running as the kind of Democrat who might win a house seat in Birmingham if they didn’t have a black to run. It is too late for him to change his profile. What’s Jones gonna do? Run ads with Hollywood celebrities saying what a dirty 32 year old Moore was? Maybe they can get Mitt Romney and John McCain to make an ad, “Vote for the Leftist. It’s that important.”
This is starting to appear like an old Yakky Doodle or Tweety cartoon where the character’s nemesis keeps on trying variations of the same attack, with variations on the same failure.
