You would if your own 15 year old at your side is being fired upon by a 10 year old of theirs. The Nazi’s in their last gasps had young boys fighting their enemies as they invaded Germany. It was either shoot a 12 year old or they would shoot you or your fellow soldiers. Sucks but what were they going to do?
I know all about the end of WW II. Many GI’s avoided killing them if they could do so.
