Stalin is always going to be remembered and revered for saving the Russian people from the Genocidal machinations of Hilter who publicly proclaimed his intent to exterminate every last Slav. Just as we will always remember and rever Lincoln despite his inducement of a bloody civil war and transforming America from a republic into an Empire with all the power in DC. Great men are frequently evil but are always remembered for what they achieved, not for their many crimes.
The annoying thing is, a lot of Russians feel the way you do...but behind the scenes apply to take part in US Green Card lottery or immigrate to a neighboring Baltic or European country. Or are already here. Its like: if Putin is so great, why stay here?! Head back to the motherland then! Its in a demographic crisis!
