As educators spend more and more of their own funds each year to buy basic essentials, Republican leaders chose to ignore the sacrifice made by those who work in our nations public schools to make sure students have adequate books, pencils, paper and art supplies, Lily Eskelsen García, the president of the National Educational Association, said in a statement.

Here's an old song I like;)
Why didn’t somebody remind the moron that public schools are not federal institutions?
Bottom feeding child molesters....
Heh, let’s see some stuff on school finances and the salaries of those least capable of being in a school - e.g., the superintendants, admin staff, etc.
Then, let’s look at the laughable curricula pushed by the NEA. Make sure that the non-phonics silliness, the abhorrent Common Core, the almost total lack of civics, language, etc. are covered.
After that, how about a bit on the NEA’s objections to vouchers. You know, the things that parents want when they actually value a real education.
Finally, let’s look at the absolute silliness of a typical education degree. You know, the thing that you need to teach in public schools, and the thing that prevents folks with REAL college degrees (math, physics, English Literature, etc) from gaining a place in the classroom.
Oh, and let’s not forget that “eddikators” have SAT scores that are, shall we say, not exactly in the MENSA class.
Then we’ll talk about Republican attitudes concerning what is a strong contender for the most corrupt (and ill educated) union in the multiverse.
Why should Repubs pay any attention to these teachers or should I more appropriately call them, leftist indoctrinators. They continue to produce graduates who can’t think, can’t spell can’t do math etc, but, damn, they feel good about themselves and their Leftist indoctrination. And, I agree, all teachers aren’t like this, but from what I have seen, most are and most are anti Republican and pro Leftist.
If the feds hadn’t butted their noses into our schools in the first place, they would be well run, the students would be disciplined, teachers wouldn’t fear for their lives, and kids would learn. When local districts ran schools, the school districts provided all the necessary supplies and books.
That’s all gone due to federal government intrusion and far-away heavy-handed one-size-fits all federal dictats. Democrats totally destroyed all of that (with Republican accomplices).
The solution is obvious.
Close to 50% if California’s budget goes to education.
The question become how much is enough?
Answer - there is never enough even if they got 100% they would want more.
lol “sacrifice”
Oh you mean the Unionized teachers that refuse to allow a parent to exercise their choice of schools all so that you can send union dues money to Hitlery???
Oh the sacrifices...
. The 2.5 months off
.the 6 figure admin salaries
. The dental coverage
. The health coverage
. The good teacher salaries and tenure...
Oh the sacrifices...
Well something is wrong with the way the money is allocated. They pay the teachers crap. For example in my county, we pay in taxes (county, fed and state) $1,033,500,000 for 79,000 students. We pay 13K per student. Average class 25 students, average yearly per class cost: $325,000. This ain’t rocket science but a scam. Why can’t they afford pencils and erasers? somebody is dipping into the cash cow.
*This doesn’t include the debt the county goes into building new schools.
Not that Republicans ignore the sacrifices made by so many teachers, but that the sacrifices are being made for the wrong purposes.
Teaching principles that are at times diametrically opposed to the spirit and ideal of America, while constantly downgrading and slighting the historic principles upon which America was founded, and was once a core part of the curriculum, does not endear these heretics to the defenders of the real purpose of America in this world.
America is the shining example to be held up for all the world to emulate, not the horrible example of some alternative universe where only Bizarro World rules.
lol Six figure salaries. That is why the Republicans get laughed out of town on this subject. A teacher in Florida starts at 30K and the top is 55K. Sorry but sometimes Republicans can be rather snobby when it comes to teachers. Do you think they should have to pay for their own supplies? Especially on such a small amount of pay? Summer vacations are getting shorter and shorter....mid June to mid August. Plus teachers have two weeks before school starts and 2 weeks after school ends so basically they have from July 1 to August 1 off for summer.
I’ve taught over 60 different math courses in my lifetime. I’ve created, or discovered thousands of new mathematic formulas, but I am not qualified to teach at the high school level, because I don’t have a teaching certificate. There is a movment to destroy mathematics in this country to promote stupidity in this country. The left wants mindless stupid voters.
So the Union decided to lower the Dues they charge the Teachers “for the Children” and everyone lived Happily Ever After.
I have a good friend who was on the school board for a number of years.
A number of things eat up the dollars.
One is special education. He said a tiny percentage of the students use up 50% of the dollars. When 1 student requires a full time minder, it only takes a few to eat up the money.
Another is the insane standards that are applied to school construction. School buildings are some of the most expensive buildings in the country.
This source says the national average for a middle school is $242.96 per square foot, or a building cost of $46,693 per student.

They work 180 days a year and 6 hours a day plus they get all holidays (and more) that the private sector enjoys.
They are paid under a state retirement system and their health insurance is covered by a district policy which is usually pretty generous.
Many became teachers because they kept changing majors in college until they found one that they could hack.
Many have chosen teaching because they have a peter pan complex. They don't have to grow up if they associate with kids all their lives. IMO that is why the incidence of teachers molesting students has become more visible.
My school is 80% minority and 100% free breakfast. You couldn't kick a 19 YO gangbanger freshman out of class until after the 100th day because of the government money he brought in.
Sure you can find great kids and great teachers in that quagmire. Unfortunately most get dragged down rather than rise above it.
Oh, by the way I retired from 25 years teaching in public high school in one of the poorest districts in the country. The business has become a cesspool from the student, teacher and administrator aspects.
The profession was once a calling, now it is nearly a scam on the public's trust.
We need you!
Lots of teachers in my school that I volunteer in make 65$ plus. Also 20$ in benefits. Florida
“Close to 50% if Californias budget goes to education.”
I didn’t know that, but I do know that CA’s teachers are overpaid.
California instituted a high school exit exam - because kids were graduating without being able to read or do math above a 3rd grade level. That’s a LOT of years of teachers just passing them along, knowing full well they couldn’t do next year’s work.
