Ahh, the 1980s.

In the 60s, it was called mindless “bubblegum” music, pop music contrived and marketed to appeal to pre-teens and teenagers.

In the 80s it was called something different(?) and sung by Debbie Gibson, Tiffany etc.

In the eighties I took my pre-teen daughters to a Debbie Gibson concert at Riverbend in Cincinnati. They loved her singing “Crocodile Rock”...until I told them Elton John wrote and sang the original version.
