I remember a case a few years back where a teenager had killed another young person, and after many hours of interrogation the police got a confession; by that time it was early evening, and getting dark.
He was placed under arrest and led to a holding cell in the police station while they made arrangements with a jail to take him.
As he was being put in the holding cell, he asks the (female) officer who's about to close the door on him "can I go home soon?"
He was absolutely shocked when the officer told him he wouldn't be going home, at least not that night. He couldn't believe it.
