An Alabama candidate for the US Senate is strongly denying allegations that he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl.
Roy Moore, a Republican firebrand, said claims that he preyed on a teenager while he was a 32-year-old prosecutor were "completely false".
Leigh Corfman and three other women say Mr Moore made sexual advances on them when they were between the ages of 14 and 18, the Washington Post reports.
The top Senate Republican said Mr Moore must step aside if the claims are true.
Mr Moore, who is now 70, said in a statement to the Post: "These allegations are completely false and are a desperate political attack by the National Democrat Party and the Washington Post on this campaign."
The Christian conservative's team said in another statement about the allegations, "this garbage is the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation".
"Judge Roy Moore has endured the most outlandish attacks on any candidate in the modern political arena, but this story in today's Washington Post alleging sexual impropriety takes the cake," its statement added.

When it’s a Republican - “It’s the seriousness of the charges.”
When it’s a Democrat - “It’s just a smear campaign by racist, right wing xenophobes.”
Well its a regular who’s who of crooked GOPe Senators coming out against him, reminds me of Mr Smith Goes to Washington!
The bottom of the barrel was going to be reached in this political contest, that was always a given.
That’s a good idea.
Consider the source. The Washington Post would never go with a story like this if it was a serious journalism institution. It does not meet any test for publication, especially this close to an election.
I’ll bet Moore gets a boost in the polls from this MSM drive by hit.
Ok, all the Repukes who said “if” are now going to get on camera and stand with him right?...RIGHT?!?!?
They don’t call it the “Washington Compost” for nothing.
The lowest end clearly an attempt to retaliate with the dirtiest kind of smear.
Moore is a public figure. He would have to prove malice.
I doubt you will have your chance.
Let the voters of Alabama decide the issue. I trust them.
Rat McConnell is behind this.
McConnell and his cronies are going to muddy the waters. Someone said that Strange might launch a write-in. McConnell would rather lose the seat than serve in the Senate with Moore. Without all that then even if these charges are true - a very, very big 'if' - Moore still wins in December. With McConnell's machinations then anything can happen.
Alabamans are not going to be fooled.
Strange how the Washington Post was not interest in recent allegations of rape against Clinton but 40 year old claims against the republican are just fine.

Why the Washington Post Has No Credibility
"Theres a reason why the Washington Post is not-so-affectionately tagged the Washington Compost by its fast-growing pool of distrustful detractors. That reason is embodied in both the person (and the journalism) of one Jonathan Capehart, homosexual activist, Washington Post mercenary-hack and editorial board member. Capehart is a liar and, by extension, so is the Washington Post."
The one thing I'm convinced of is that the Democrats had nothing to do with this. Start to finish, this is McConnell's and the GOP establishments doing.
This helps Moore if he holds fast.
