While the world tries to interpret Saudi Arabia's moves to clamp down on corruption and watches the kingdom accuse Iran of an "act of war," a former Reagan administration Pentagon official says Saudi Arabia is gearing up for the very real possibility of a "very, very bloody" war with Iran.
Within the past several days, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is next in line to the Saudi throne, has ordered the arrests of many government officials, including 11 princes, on allegations of corruption. More recently, the crown prince accused Iran of an “act of war” after Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen launched an Iranian missile toward the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
The Houthis admit firing the missile, and Saudi investigators say the fragments prove the missile is from Iran. Furthermore, the Saudi-friendly prime minister of Lebanon abruptly resigned, and many other elements of the Lebanese government are loyal to the Shiite regime in Iran.
So are the events of the past week just the latest developments in an unstable region or something far more significant?

Somehow I doubt that. Belgium is too far away from either Saudi Arabia or Iran.

The only ones they could hire fast enough with any sort of skill would be the Israelis. Perhaps the Saudis could hire recently-retired US Air Force pilots. Just guessing, really. A pilot can be a pretty good pilot, but plop them into an unfamiliar airplane and they would probably suck. Perhaps I am misreading the situation, but assuming the premise, eg; that a war is imminent, I see little possibility of a ground war. It would be all missile, all air. Very fast. I cannot see the Saudis, unless they are very stupidly arrogant, thinking anything but that they would be wide, wide open once the 1st, 2nd, and third round of missiles were expended. I am kind of doubtful about the whole story but far stranger things have happened in that corner of the world.

The fringe extremist Shi’ite sect that currently rules Iran (called Twelvers) believe that the final “end-of-times” battle between Sunnis and Shi’ites is pre-ordained to take place in Iraq.
The ideology of the current Iranian Regime is very much built around a great end of the world battle, which brings the Last Imam (the Mahdi) back out from “occultation” to lead them to final victory, and results in the Kingdom of God on Earth.
The Iranians often publicly promote the bringing on of the final eschatological battle, as the best outcome they could hope for - all the more reason to keep nukes out of their hands.
The Iranians already have proxy forces along the border. There are the Houthi (Shia) rebels in Yemen, and thousands of Iranian backed Shiite militia currently in Iraq. The army of Iran is 3 to 4 times the size of Saudi Arabia’s.
If Turkiye wishes to, Ankara will decide the outcome of a war between the Sauds and the Muillahs.

They both have significant Naval forces, and huge naval interests - both of them ship the bulk of their oil out by Sea, through the Arabian/Persian Gulf and Straits of Hormuz.
Iran has it’s biggest Naval Base at Bandar Abbas, right in the Straits of Hormuz. It could well be the main focus of a direct war between the Saudis and Iranians.
If the title of the article is true, we can expect American blood be spilled in defense of the Saudis. And it will be spilled free of charge just as it was in Iraq and everywhere else.

Personally, both Iran and Saudi Arabia have supported terrorists that killed Americans all over the world. Having the two terrorist sponsoring nations kill each other, sounds like something I would want God to sort out.
The only problem is that there appears to be some serious change in the Saudi government’s support of extreme Islam and international terrorism. But it will take time to see if actions speak louder than words.
I’d trust any Saudi about as far as I could throw them.
