The target audience is local.

And getting less so every day. It wouldn't kill local newspapers to put the name of the city and state somewhere in a prominent spot on the web page so we don't have to look at the weather to figure out WHICH Springfield we are describing.

I can’t argue with that. I just think the station’s audience needs to “feel” they are watching local news. They are who the advertising is aimed at.

However, whenever someone else picks up the story, they should enhance its metadata for a national/international audience.
