Legal privacy.

Maybe in America but not in a lot of European countries. Spain, where I live, requires you to report worldwide assets worth over 100 thousand Euros and has huge fines and jail time for avoiders. I live in Spain and have to report my IRA even though I never earned a dime in that country.

Obviously, not reporting is illegal. Having the money overseas is not illegal.

May I ask where in Spain you live?

May I also ask what the muslim issue is like there?

Maybe Bono blew up that reporter to keep his secret?

I live on the Costa Tropical in Southern Spain, about 1000 kilometers from Barcelona. It is the only part of Spain where the mountains come down to the sea, which enables you to get some killer views without having to put up with the noise and traffic associated with a seaside town. We are 600 meters from the beach and from my terrace I can see Peñon del Santo, the rock at the old harbour entrance' At the base of the rock is a statue at the place where Umayyad Abd ar-Rahman I of Damascus, the founder of the Emirate of Cordoba, arrived from North Africa to establish his Moorish kingdom in 755. On top of the same rock is a large cross erected in honor of the surrender of the Moors and the beginning of Christian rule in 1489. Here is a picture taken from my terrace that shows the cross on the rock and the castle that used to guard the old harbor.

This part of Spain is overwhelmingly Catholic and if there is a mosque in my town I don't know where it is. Once we got settled in I posted in FR about my move.

Nice write- up. Thank you for sharing your adventure!

We’ve looked online at that area and at Portugal to escape winter snow and freezing temperatures. I appreciate your insight.

If you have any questions about the area feel free to send me a PM. If you're ever considering a visit there is always room at our home for a fellow FReeper. Keep me in mind.

oshkalaboomboom,

Thanks for your kindness! I would love to meet you!

We intend to visit sometime as we get into the new year. We’ve been too busy
“birthin’ grandkids” to get away until then.

I will send you a private mail with my name and email so we can stay in touch. I’d very much like to learn from your experience.

Kind regards@
