Radiation doesn't particularly make trees hard
to grow, But as the Red Forest near the reactor
in Chernobyl demonstrates, they can get weird.

Chernobyl disaster released radioactive substances into air, which may not bring extensive underground contamination. NK nuclear test led to underground contamination, probably causing soil and groundwater contamination as well as the collapse of water table. This could make vegetation difficult to grow.
