When you are half a trillion off I would expect that someone has an udea of what happened, but I get no idea from this article what it is. Since HUD's budget is around $50 billion that is ten years of spending off. Is the half trillion from no one signing off on the entire Obama administration's spending?

It would have been nice if the article gave some idea of the big cause of the problem instead of listing audit deficiencies. Since most of that is in HUD notes, it looks like they lost control of their lending programs.

Nope.

It was Command Intention that loans be given to totally unqualified buyers who would never be able to pay them off.

The sellers and banks get taxpayer funds, the borrowers temporarily have a place to live and the banks ends up with the money AND the property to resell. It's win win win win for everyone but the taxpayer!
