WASHINGTON President Trump is not a favorite in the extended Bush household. Former President George Bush considers him a blowhard, only interested in feeding his own ego. Former President George W. Bush, his son, thinks Mr. Trump fans public anger and came to office without any understanding of the job.
And both worry that Mr. Trump has blown up a Republican Party that they spent two lifetimes building, a party that was once committed to removing boundaries to trade and immigration, promoting democracy and civil society and asserting a robust American leadership role in the world, according to an author who has interviewed them.

Self-described humble leaders don’t start unnecessary wars that kill thousands of our best young Americans, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, and hand Iraq over to our sworn enemy Iran, all the while costing American taxpayers 2 trillion dollars. I’ve known what the Bush family was for decades - self-proclaimed “conservatives” at the time of an election when they need them, disdainful of them when the are no longer needed and the Bushes want to fit in at the country club with their Demo counterparts. How fortunate that we find out what a pervert Bush Sr. is before this crappy book comes out, is Jennifer Fitzgerald one of the authors? I’ll also bet there is not a word critical of Obama or the Clintons in their trashy book.
They are worried because Trump wants to give the party Back to the People and kick the Ruling Class to the Curb.
Yay! If they’re worried, that’s a positive sign (from one who voted for 41 and 43).
Donald Trump is the first pro-America President since Ronaldus Magnus.
41 and the real patriarch of the clan, Barbara (who is, incidentally, a man), are utterly irrelevant. They all need to go out to the Kennebunk Club, have a nice dinner of liver and onions and a few dry martinis, and plan their renovation of the Bush family yacht. That will be their big undertaking for the next decade. Oh, and try to keep the Mexican daughter-in-law away from the pool boy.
Actually, the Bush-Clinton Families Dynasty is in its death spiral. The same swirling effect as when draining the swamp....one in the same. We’re fed up with both, an this is part of the list of symptoms.
We can only hope so.
Blow up the old, rebuild into a party based on smaller government, less world-wide military policing and interfering, greater liberty and more transparency and honesty.
Unfortunately, however, that is not what a majority of Americans - or the economic power players - really want. Perhaps the best we can hope for is the above revised core party as part of a broader governing coalition that also includes semi-rational centrists - against the more extreme statist globalists on the left.
Are they really that stupid. President Trump is not blowing up the GOP. There really has not been a GOP since Reagan. What we have had is the GOPe and Republican citizens. The latter has a set of values that the former lied and said were their values as well when in fact, they were globalists and uni-party hacks.
At least Trump knows how to pick a good Supreme Court Justice.
Patent Bullshit from two past (very little accomplished) presidents.
Theyre just puking up retaliation for Trump slaughtering low-energy Jeb.
Very few payed a lot of attention to either Bush when they were in office, and even less now. Sad that they are making spectacles of themselves now by acting stupid.
Trump is blowing up the eGOP, restoring the GOP back to what it is supposed to be.
The Bush family are nothing but Democrats.
The Booshes “Kingdom” is gone! Kick some dirt on those worthless turds, they deserve to be removed from the planet.
Nothing like running your son in one party but supporting the other party when he doesn’t become the party candidate.
Fair-weather traitors like that are not needed in the party!
“upgrading and refining the GOP,”
Code words for getting rid of the RINOs and the RAT-Lite GOPe.
