But I thought that it had been stipulated that this sort of corruption was pervasive, and that “everybody does it” is no excuse. According to these precepts, everything is proceeding as normal, notwithstanding the Draconian punishment of Blago. But we, the citizens, sleep, until awakened, at which time we fulminate momentarily.

To be honest, I do sympathize with him, as I’ve been saying.
But he was the Governor! Not some speeder. To this day, I see his name, in my minds eye, on those signs announcing the toll area, as it used to be there in fact.
You see? On what authority are you speaking about “taking down” blatant violators, like for example the duly elected Governor of Illinois. It’s like Russia.
Illinois is the only state in the Union where their governors also make their license plates.
You have mistaken the gist of my remark.
I was opining over the (welcome) spectre of the law being
applied to all politicians in a universal even-handed manner.
I must hasten to add that in my current frame of mind I would
be inclined to exempt Mr. President “The Donald” Trump on the
grounds that while he has become a political leader, he certainly
is not a politician.
But as understood, if this were in fact applied by some overarching authority, unimagined by us, it would result in the extinction of the political class ... then what?
Pure innocent humanity would bloom forth ????

Not a fan of this guy, but he was railroaded for nothing. He was no dirtier than any other poll and probably much cleaner than most. He was over charged and was given far too much time for this offense.

Right. Like he gets all this time and his buddies get nothing. Illinois government is a nest of vipers.
Road is a skunk, and I got no use for him, but they overcharged him to death, then rigged the charges. Then indicted his brother (who ended up walkin).
This guy was never going to be found not guilty.
They had major charges and sub charges under each major charge. - 24 charges in all in his first trial.
The jury instructions were, if you find him guilty on any sub charge, he’s guilty on the major charge.
Rod has been appealing and got another trial. Then appealed some more, got counts dropped then appealed some more.
I don’t see how SCOTUS takes this case. I don’t see Pres. Trump touching this either.

Can’t stand Blago. But there is no way he should have gone to jail.
