Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, on Friday said special counsel Robert Mueller needs to be relieved of his duties, mirroring other conservatives who say Mueller is too close to Democrats to be the one tasked with investigating Trump.
"We don't need director Mueller, we need him gone, and we need a special prosecutor to get into this," Gohmert said on the House floor.
Gohmert said he opposes both Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to lead the Russia probe.
"They both were engaged in the coverup of the initial Russian investigation that revealed Russia was trying to corner the market on uranium," he said.
That's a reference to reports that the FBI in 2009 had evidence that a U.S. subsidiary of a Russian company was involved in criminal activities, but did nothing until several years later. The parent company of that Russian firm, Rosatom, was later approved to buy a Canadian uranium company, after that company donated money to the Clinton Foundation.
"Mueller cannot possibly investigate this," Gohmert said. "He's in it up to his eyeballs, and so is Rosenstein."
"They both ought to do the decent thing, I know it's not characteristic, but they ought to do the decent thing and resign and let somebody that is not completely submerged in the original coverup investigate this whole matter," he said.
Mueller this week indicated former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, and his business associate, Rick Gates.

I think that is definitely possible. The problem is the Dems would only vote to confirm a Barney Fife type to replace him.
