True. It's my belief that's the culture/political system they're in that determines their fate. Courtesy of an international oil company and a few trips overseas as a worker, it's been my experience that the ambitious ones, or even those willing to work hard will get ahead in a capitalist society.

In the U.S. I've worked with foreign non-whites who marvel at the opportunities available here - and I mean revelations in the vein of "How long has this been going on?"

African and Caribbean blacks especially look down on U.S. blacks as people from another planet because they seem to glory in their ignorance and poverty.

Even foreign whites. I worked with a guy from Russia who showed me his mind-boggling property tax bill (this was in California). I made a comment about blood-sucking politicians and he replied "What are you talking about? In my country I couldn't even own property, but here I can be a LAND OWNER. He was proud as Hell over that. More than once, during lunchtime discussions, the conversations would almost invariably end with "You people don't know how good you have it here."
