Morgan compared Bergdahl to a child who jumps into things without thinking about the consequences. Bergdahl wants to do the right thing but doesn’t always know the right way to go about it, Morgan said.

“Once [Bergdahl] gets an idea that makes sense, he wants to do it,” Morgan said, adding later that Bergdahl knew walking off of his Army post “would get him in trouble.”

This is the reason why Bergdahl needs to be punished as severely as possible.

There are probably a lot of other soldiers that have similar proclivities and are having their own problems differentiating right from wrong and who may give into the temptation to act impulsively.

The sure knowledge that they will be sentenced to a lifetime of hard labor in Ft Leavenworth will go a long way towards clarifying right from wrong and may prevent them from acting impulsively.

Unfortunately, that sounds very true. Punishment is a good motivator for enforcing behavior in the criminal and in the people who see the cause and effect.

He was this way, in Coast Guard boot camp. They discharged him. Army never dug into the discharge and readily accepted him with behaviour issues.
