Papa John's says anthem protests are hurting deal with NFL

Executives from Papa John's, the official pizza company of the NFL, expressed disappointment on a conference call Wednesday about the league's ongoing player protests during the national anthem.

"The NFL has hurt us," company founder and CEO John Schnatter said. "We are disappointed the NFL and its leadership did not resolve this."

Executives said the company has pulled much of its NFL television advertising and that the NFL has responded by giving the company additional future spots.

"Leadership starts at the top and this is an example of poor leadership," Schnatter said, noting he thought the issue had been "nipped in the bud" a year and a half ago.

In revising sales estimates for the next quarter, Papa John's president and chief operating officer Steve Ritchie said on the call that the NFL deal was the primary suspect behind the decline and that "we expect it to persist unless a solution is put in place."

Association with the NFL will hurt Papa John's. Thanks John W.

The beef ‘boli all the way is a reward to myself for surviving another week.

My other week reward is a to go fried flounder with double fries from a Greek ran place across town.

I stopped buying Papa John’s precisely BECAUSE of their advertising with the NFL, not because I’m not watching football.

I agree on virtually all your points. It became tedious to watch games, frustrating seeing literally the same commercial three or four times during the SAME commercial break. One thing though, that had driven me nuts for years was the lack of tackling, a lot of times seeming like the player had no knowledge or training in making a proper tackle. Very frustrating. I know it’s an art, not a science but still... What do you think is going to happen if you just bounce off the ball carrier?

I stopped watching the NFL.

The next step—start emailing the Board of Directors of these advertisers and telling them they need to join the boycott or fail as a business.

The NFL has made it clear they want to politicize the sport to follow the leftist party line.

Papa Johns needs to take a stand—with us or against us.

They want to hear from you!

The same thing happened in 2004 as the Red Sox clawed their way back to defeat the Yankees in the American League championship.

Everyone seems to be watching the World Series in my neck of the woods. This included vast numbers of people who previously had no interest in baseball.

It gave rise to something known as ‘ the pink hats ‘. After the 2004 win, people were seen running around Boston wearing pink colored Red Sox hats. Had never seen one of those before. A lot of the new fans were women.

How long their interest remained in the sport is anyone’s guess.

I watched Spartacus last night. The Kirk Douglas version, not that new ultra gory CGI and porn one.

The moral of the story is found at the end when the road to Rome is lined with the crucified corpses and dying mutilated bodies of the players...I mean Gladiators, who rebelled against their masters.

not too sure they will become unemployed,
But if this keeps up they will certainly see their pay checks shrink.

At some point you just stop paying for NFL Sunday Ticket and close your bar on Sunday.

How about if the NFL publically apologized to Tebow. The only reason he was cut was because he was not a thug nor a felon he is a Christian whose faith made the evil NFL nervous.
The NFL has an ample critical mass of Democrats sufficient to allow them to intimidate the rest into going along to get along.

So the issue becomes whether you can institute a football league restricted to Republicans. Or at least, to non-Democrats.

The protest is insulting to the black community too...

What these players are saying is the ‘protest’ MUST be done before a white audience BECAUSE WE'RE THE ONLY PEOPLE WITH THE POWER TO SOLVE THEIR PROBLEM FOR THEM..

Think how impotent YOU would feel if white people protested before Japanese American because we were so lame we felt only the Japaneses were smart enough to ‘solve our problems’ for us.

If NFL owners want to back kneelers they could build them a ‘think tank’ center where black people can work at solving their own problems. High murder rates in black communities IS a problem. And illegal drugs. AND violence and gangs and school drop-out and unwed mothers etc etc etc.

They have a lot of problems to work out and it's insane to hand THEIR PROBLEMS OVER TO WHITE PEOPLE TO SOLVE. Grow up black community... the NFL tantrum is starting to backfire...

Yikes. No wonder so many people are overweight and have diabetes. Sugar is in all kinds of foods that one would never suspect. Blech.

My wife is from NYC - born, raised, went to Barnard. We go back every fall for a long weekend. So, we were in NYC during the Boston series 13 years ago.

As Calif native and long time Dodgers fan, I of course have natural enmity for the Yankees. She, being a non-sports fan, didn't even know the WS was on.

Anyway, when the series was 3-1, it of course seemed like a shoe-in. Yet, every night we went out, and the Yankees lost game by game, it was the weirdest thing seeing the reacting at the bars/restuarants.

The last & final game was the most interesting. I still sort of can't believe (a) it happened; and (2) we were in the heart of NYC while this was going on. Definitely memorable.

As to pink hats, maybe people are re-discovering the game. You can't really beat the natural pace & flow. In an era of too many commercials, watching a game is almost like stepping back into nature.

“...and end the association...”

Ad programs are usually done on a seasonal contract basis, and they cannot be terminated unless a specific contract term has been violated.

PJ’s probably has a lot of money on the NFL program, and surely hasn’t a whole lot more to spend on alternative ads. They’re probably stuck for the season.

What a bunch of arrogant pricks running or I should say ruining the NFL. The sad part is all the businesses that depend on or advertise with the NFL are being hurt by these arrogant pricks. All these leftists like Goodell and Lockhart need to be fired immediately.

The whole social justice movement also needs to be blown up and exposed for just another way of advancing their brand of communism. That’s the only way you get legislated equality is to have a totalitarian dictatorship. THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT AMERICA!

We have a Constitution that is supposed to protect us from a terrible government like that and the social justice deception needs to be EXPOSED and CRUSHED for the evil that it is. What the left has brought to America the last 50 to 100 years is incompatible with what made America great.

MAGA!!!!

I haven’t watched the NFL this season. BUT, the Ohio State — Penn State game last weekend was amazing!

Gotohellamerica isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. He’s a lib, he believes he is right and the customers aka fans can go to hell.

Only when the owners start suffering in the pocketbook in a couple of years will his gig be in danger.
