I read a book on this battle and charge when I was in Australia.
The Germans had set the artillery and machine guns for a human advance. The mounted Australians charged through the pre-set lines, and the Turkish soldiers could not reset their weapons fast enough to hit them. Nearly all the fire went over the Light Horse unit’s heads.
It was a suicidal charge... until it wasn’t. Nothing succeeds like success.
Their water supply did not arrive as planned and men and horses were in dire need. Lined up to attack fortified trenches with machine guns and artillery they advanced. The Turks thought they were crazy and would be moved down before they got to the town. They held fire until the Australians got into range. Just about the time they were to open fire the horses got a whiff of the well water in the town and took off at a gallop, Before the Turks could crank down their artillery the Aussies were in the trenches. At least that’s a story I read. I have a pair of leather leggings modeled on the 7ths which I used to wear when riding. Think I’ll pull those out and wear them again.
There is a lengthy segment on the battle and great filming of the charge itself.
Very impressive footage of the horses galloping in the charge. Knee-to-knee and boot-to-boot.
Either way. No one actually cares what the losers think of a loss of their land. A lot of hypocritical posturing from the left but only on behalf of minorities to promote cultural balkanization and nothing anywhere is actually done so the Pali's can just stfu.
Nvm, this one actally was a charge, they just didnt normally do that. I suppose thats part of why it was so effective.
To be fair, if you include the infantry, the British and Empire troops outnumbered the German-led Ottoman force 10-1.
