Oh, fer gawds sake. When I was a teenager in the South (’50s), y’alls Grandaddys were called “ni66ers” to their face. If they entered a “white” restaurant they were glared at, insulted, chased out, and occasionally spat upon.
When I was in the Air Force in the late ‘60s, they had minstrel shows and make believe “Slave Auctions” for entertainment in the NCO club. Roads entering Tuscaloosa, AL had KKK signs “welcoming” you.
