Indictment is not conviction although the public is very hazy on that distinction so in a war of public opinion an indictment is practically as good as convicted.
An indictment costs tons of money and reputation. But it is still not worse that conviction. I get your point, of course. But unless you are advocating talking to investigators, it is a bit off point. Good conversation, just not exactly on point.
Getting indicted sucks. Going to jail is worse. But that may be splitting hairs because both are horrible to go through.
