I am old enough to remember the so-called "brain drain" of the 60's when the USA was supposedly stealing the best people from Europe. If so, we were lucky.

Why can't we have merit based immigration again? Because with liberals around you can never have nice things.

Immigrant with skills can survive in USA, rest just struggle, because to start from zero is not easy. It only brings frustration.
