The guy worked for the Podesta Group for a long time, so there's probably all sorts of stuff to get him on. The fact that he also worked on Trump's campaign will be sufficient for the MSM to throw all the blame toward Trump regardless of what he gets charged with.
The effort here is to squeeze Manafort over some shady business prior to his involvement in the Trump campaign in an effort to compel Manafort into playing ball. Mueller knows there was no "collusion" so Manafort will need to make up some stuff.
Monday's arrest will have nothing to do with the 2016 presidential election. It'll be allegations of money laundering and failing to disclose foreign business dealings that took place long before.
