As someone from NJ, I understand why those from my state voted no. The current legislation does away with the deductability of local taxes. Not so much state taxes, but local municipal property taxes. What this means is that a lot of middle class homeowners in NJ and NY will be getting a tax increase not a decrease. Any politician in NJ or suburban NY would lose their seat if they voted for this current legislation. For someone making in the high five low six figures, this would be a bigger tax increase than Obama or Bubba ever hit them with. If you are a GOPer in North Jersey or Long Island it would be political suicide to get on this train.

Sorry, to NY/NJ Reps, but the state/local tax deduction needs to go. The high tax states are mostly Blue. The deduction subsidizes high state & local taxes. Getting rid of the deduction will put pressure on these states to LOWER their taxes. About time...

As of today, I am against the legislation as it currently stands. When the the local landscaping contractor here in North Jersey gets hit with a income tax increase so Larry Kudlow and Steve Moore’s buddies get huge decreases, count me out. If everybody gets a decrease, count me in.

Since the left generally looks at deductions which lower taxes as "subsidies" why should I subsidize high tax rates in cities and states where they live?
