If I am not mistaken, the same company that owns the hotel owns ABC, and Ellen probably has more viewers than the nightly news now-a-days. It was a simple business decision to x out the competing news orgs, IMO.

Because Ellen has financial ties to Mandalay Bay. She even has her own Ellen slot machines there.
They put him on the Ellen show to make sure he sticks to the official Mandalay Bay approved narrative, and to make sure they have a friendly interviewer who won't ask any unapproved questions.
