Hollywood film star Mark Wahlberg said that the film “Boogie Nights” is at the top of the list of movies he has asked God’s forgiveness for at a youth event hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago last Friday.

The 1997 hit film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, featured Wahlberg as porn star Dirk Diggler, and earned several Academy Awards nominations.

Last December, the film star made headlines when he publicly chided “out of touch” Hollywood celebrities who were dissing Donald Trump before the presidential elections, urging them to stick to acting.

Boogie Nights is one of the finest films ever made (with a truly amazing supporting cast), and it’s ridiculous that Walburg claims to feel ashamed:

1. it’s probably the finest acting job of his entire career,

2. it’s partially a film about redemption: nobody kid rises to porn “stardom”, fame and money go to his head, he eschews the people who helped his rise to faem, he gets into drugs which destroy his career and life, he hits rock bottom in a robbery that goes bad, finally asks his former friends for herlp, gets off drugs, and starts to recover his life.

3. the film also does show how many of the makers of porn live squalid lives, with “Amber Waves” (Julianne Moore) losing custody of her child, the porn film financier “The Colonel” (Robert Ridgely) gets busted for child porn, goes to prison for life, loses everything and is shunned by all of his former “friends” and associates, and the cinematographer (William Macy) commits suicide because his wife is essentially a whore.

(The movie is also a parody of Hollywood and is hilariously funny to boot.)

I don’t think it was a bad movie. It seemed really realistic as I recall from what I recall about that Industry at the time, growing up kind of surrounded by it as I did. Wasn’t it the one where there’s a murder? I think I have it right.

When I was feeding my baby the first year, I watched every single episode of his tv show the Entourage on my iPad in the rocking chair. It was my guilty pleasure.

Did that murder happen on Wonderland in Laurel Canyon? Didn’t realize that.

Well, that film did cement Julianne Moore’s identity as a porno star, much as Jane Fonda became a prostitute identity for her films.

Our good works won’t cut it since God’s standard is perfect holiness.

God’s Son has already paid the price for forgiveness by the only thing that would atone for sin, His blood.

If this actor, asked God to forgive him for his sins, based on the sacrifice of Christ, then he has been forgiven.

Not gross, other than some fat homo kissing Whahlberg.

You would see why Julianne Moore is thought to be a porno actress long after she did the film.

Well if he could pay for his own forgiveness, Christ died for naught.

What the Lord would want is for him to turn and put his life to good purposes where he had been putting it to bad.

Boogie Nights is an incredible film. Wahlberg needs to apologize for that gawdawful M. Night Shyamalan movie where he talks to plants while doing his best impersonation of Andy Samberg impersonating Mark Wahlberg. "Hi plant. I know you wanna kill me. How's your mother?"

This is a common friction point between the respective official doctrines of fundamentalist Protestant morality and Roman Catholic morality.

UNOFFICIALLY, people who worship at all kinds of churches have found the grace of God. And sometimes the bare doctrine can hurt more than help when it is attempted in one’s own power. The spirit of Christ is caught. It can’t be taught, not in the normal mortal way of teaching. It can be talked about sensibly once one has the required supernatural sense; but not before.

MIGHT he be moved to thus donate the funds? It depends wholly on the circumstances in which the Lord has put him. Is he raising a family and would be dirt poor without it? Probably not a wise move. As one example. God never orders us to shoot past His grace. Now the devil will do that quite frequently.

Mark Wahlberg Says He Asked God’s Forgiveness for ‘Boogie Nights’ Film

Not sure why - it was too long, like all of Paul Thomas Anderson's movies, but it was an OK film.

And, of course, the obvious question is whether he asked God's forgiveness for his racially motivated attack on two Vietnamese men when Wahlberg was a teenager. It's amazing the kind of people Hollywood fosters while it lectures ordinary people who don't commit assault and battery or sexually harass women.

“Marky Mark got lucky... “

I did not know until now that Wahlburg was a hip-hopper prior to his movie career.

Boogie Nights is actually a good film. In no way did it glamourize the porn industry. All the characters are either tragic or made know to be sick perverts taking advantage of the tragic characters. Very dark movie.

But still good for Mark. The movie coumd have been just as good without the explicit sex scene with Julliane Moore. It was unecessary as everyone knows what goes on in porn.

That was a Paul Thomas Anderson movie......well done

He doesn’t need forgiveness to me but if he feels he needs it from our lord then I wish him well

He’s turned out better than most

He needs forgiveness for that crap music he put out

In reality for the old man he beat hard in his youth

Now that yes son.....you need forgiveness for that

I too beat someone almost to death once....most shameful act of my life to this day at 60 next week

I warn my kids about fights that get out of hand frequently given they all are sporting types

The man I beat died a few years ago...I felt shame even then

Wahlberg as the lead role in The Shooter is something!
I saw it twice in the theaters and resaw it on TV, always with pleasure.
Didn’t know he has become a good Christian family man, all the better. The bad thing is he’ll have less work now at Hollyweird.
