Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he's still considering a Senate campaign in Arizona following the decision by incumbent Republican Sen. Jeff Flake not to seek re-election.
Arpaio, who in August became the first person pardoned by President Trump after he was convicted of misdemeanor contempt, previously said he was considering a primary challenge against Flake.
"It's still out there, I haven't made a decision," he told the Washington Examiner on Tuesday, shortly after Flake's announcement.
The former sheriff said he met twice recently with Steve Bannon, the former White House chief strategist who has sought to recruit anti-establishment Senate candidates.

Thanks for the ping. Trump has his hands full right now. All but one GOP senator stood up and applauded Flake’s ugly, vile and vicious attack on Trump. McConnell went out of his way to praise Flake’s hate-spew. Trump first has to deal with a congress full of GOP backstabbers, then he can address some of the more pertinent old business.
We can only hope. That should bring down even more corrupt congresscritters, starting with Pelosi who “fixed” the Hawaiian DNC nomination for Soetoro.
Exactly true !
We need fewer octogenarians ..
and create opportunity to develop younger Conservatives !
NO! This is more meddling by the AZ GOPe. Yes, they would put Arpaio up to dilute the Kelli Ward vote.
Don’t be fooled. ANYONE else in the race now is an attempt to defeat Ward. She is clearly anti-swamp. I like Joe, but he needs to stay the hell out.
I doubt if he’s running, due to his age and his wife has terminal cancer. However he has committed to help fund raise, and he’s good at that.
re #25
LS, you need to catch bannon and discuss this...
We talked. It’s over, I hope.
:)
Thanks Seizethecarp and LucyT for the pings!
You are most welcome! I am remembering that Sheriff Arpaio was one of the last people the actual Mr. Breitbart spoke to before he died!
