BERLIN (AP) — All of Germany's six submarines are out of action, and the country's defense minister isn't happy about it.
The Kieler Nachrichten newspaper reports that four U-boats are being serviced in boatyards while two others are waiting for a berth.
Asked how Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen views the temporary loss of the underwater fleet, her spokesman said Friday that "this is obviously not a good situation."
Jens Flosdorff told reporters in Berlin that "we would hope the mission readiness was higher, but sometimes with technology the devil is in the detail."

Think what a German submarine fleet of 20 to 30 boats would mean to NATO. Russia's Baltic ports at Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg are neutralized. Also the Germans could contribute mightily to closing the GIUK gap.
If a country was debating between a German boat and a French boat, this news should seal the deal for the French.
I had thought that the German boats were supposed to be pretty good, but it looks like they have a significant flaw.
If these are 212s, what about the ones the Italians bought?

Everyone here is droning on and on about readiness. You are all missing the key question, which is: What does Ursula von der Leyen look like? I'd say for a Defense Minister, she's looking pretty good.

The ‘major’ fact about this is that as long as WE are supporting these other countries, they can take defense like the Social Experiment that we appear to be heading to.
I agree wholeheartedly with the Drain the Swamp attitude BUT we have to put OUR Military back on page one.
If these ‘selected’ European Countries don’t care about THEIR OWN security, we know what they think about ours.
We should give Germany a huge wake up call and put ALL -well the majority - of OUR assets in a ‘friendly’ country. Maybe, just Maybe they will then wake up when we unplug the ‘Dependent’ and US Military presence ‘cash cow’

Correct. I mentioned the Islamists planned on a 100-year-war against the West. This barbarity by Muslims has gone on since that gutter religion was founded. Century after century, they seek to take lands by force and assimilate others into their "culture". Hence, the translation of "Islam" which means "submit" - submit and convert, or die, then there will peace (when everyone is converted or subjugated). If you don't convert but submit to their rules, then you're a lower-class human that they will tolerate as long as your tribe pays tribute to Islamic culture. They seek to take ever more lands until they dominate the world. That's their agenda since their beginning.
This 100-year-war is a final push to take lands lost to Crusaders and to vanquish Crusader lands (starting with Europe). Whenever I hear people like Kennedy say "stop fighting and there will be peace" I puke, because I don't want the Islamic version of peace. We have to kill them now, or be a slave later.
