London is now more crime ridden and dangerous than New York City, with rape, robbery and violent offences far higher on this side of the Atlantic.
The latest statistics, published earlier this week, revealed that crime across the UK was up by 13 per cent, with a surge in violence in the capital blamed for much of the increase.

I seem to recall that London had crossed the line with NYC in overall crime stats several years ago, post-Giuliani.
Article: “While both London and New York have populations of around 8 million, figures suggest you are almost six times more likely to be burgled in the British capital than in the US city, and one and a half times more likely to fall victim to a robbery.”
So the gap seems to be widening.
Well, NYC is this country’s safest large city. This year the city is on pace for record low homicides and they are about 1/10th the pace seen in the 1990s. They are also on pace for record low crime over all.
Gee, the Muslim mayor said that. I’m surprise. Say Mr. Mayor. Does that increase have anything to do with the increase of Muslim in England?
Back in 1982 my family had visited London for the first time. My brother and I were both raised as free range kids (we would go 20+ miles together exploring St. Paul on our bikes) so my mom let me and my brother go out ourselves together to roam London while she went shopping at Harrod’s.
We treated it as basically the same thing as our home jaunts, so we ran around and went to Whimpies, took the tube to Hyde Park, and I think the only incident was a bobby asking us to please not run in public.
I’m very surprised to see that article! Truth from The Telegraph in the UK (*not* the Daily Mail! Now, maybe some problems can be solved in each of our countries.
Or would that be farther instead of further? I’ll look it up.
Several posters seeking to link this with gun control and Islam, but the dates don’t correlate. This is a very recent increase in violent crime, particularly in London (less so elsewhere in the country). But there’s been no change in gun legislation since 1997, while the main influx of Muslims to the UK happened in during the mid 50s to mid 70s. It’s continued since, but much more slowly. During much of the intervening period violent crime actually decreased.
A much more plausible correlation is with the changed policing priorities described in the article (over which, by the way, the Mayor of London has relatively little control).
