George W. Bush hinted Thursday at his dissatisfaction with Donald Trump, complaining in a New York City speech that 'bullying and prejudice' has become a caustic norm in American public life.

At an event hosted by the George W. Bush Institute, the 43rd U.S. president rattled off a thinly veiled litany of complaints about the current commander-in-chief, focusing on both his tone and his isolationist policy choices.

Funny how both Obama and Bush come out on
the SAME day to talk the SAME subject. Both
are worthless.

Forbes or McCain couldn’t have beaten Gore and Lieberman in 2000, but it is what it is

McCain would have been even worse than Bush on just about every count. Forbes would have been far better than either, but smart man though he is, he'd manage to make even Al Gore seem animated and charismatic by comparison. The only other choices in the GOP primary were Gary Bauer and Alan Keyes, both of whom seemed to think they were running for preacher rather than President.

It's as though the party intentionally picked an unelectable crop for the primaries so that we'd get stuck with the Bush heir to the throne, with McCain as a pinch-hitter. They tried to do the same with Jeb in 2016, and would have probably succeeded if it weren't for Trump. If nothing else, Americans owe Trump a huge debt of gratitude for standing in the way of two people (Bush and Clinton) who felt that their names alone entitled them to the highest office in the land.

You are now vindicated, as well as all the others who dared to criticize Bush in those days. Welcome back!

Pataki or Gingrich would have won in 2000 had he run.

GOP 2000 primaries were pretty bland.

The only other conservative site I frequented was Lucianne’site. I really liked her and the folks who posted there. They had very intelligent discussions. I am soooo disappointed in her son Jonah, an anti-Trumper. Somhehow I think she would be disappointed in him, too.

Pataki or Gingrich would have won in 2000 had he run.

Gingrich is mercurial and so unreliable on many issues, but he would have still been much better than either Bush or McCain. Pataki is a RINO liberal like Rudy Giuliani, and would have been worse than either Bush or McCain. In almost any other state, Pataki would have been a Democrat.

GOP 2000 primaries were pretty bland.

On another thread, someone remarked that it was as though we didn't have a primary in 2000 at all, we just woke up one day to find another person named George Bush handed the nomination for the second time in a decade. That sounds about right. Like Hillary in 2016, it was more of a coronation than a primary. I knew W would be bad news with his talk of "compassionate conservatism" and his soft spot for Mexican illegals, but I wasn't prepared for just how bad he was going to turn out.

From January to 9/11/01, people saw W as weak and too naïve.

After 9/11/2001, is when he had to buckle up and realize that America would be at war.

Pataki would have won in 2000, he would have won NY.

Kennedy sent the first combat troops. LBJ inherited Kennedy’s disaster.

Kennedy had some 15,000 advisers in South Vietnam, my father being one of them. The Gulf of Tonkin Incident in the summer of 1964 was the excuse for sending the first American combat units, 3,500 Marines landing at Da Nang in March 1965.

Somehow the “George W. Bush Institute” is not something that I would care to read about.
