Former Carl’s Jr. CEO: NFL could have prevented protest mess, as any competent employer would

Like many Americans, I find it distressing to see multi-millionaire athletes kneeling during the playing of our national anthem before professional football games. In my lifetime, football has been a big part of our image as Americans.

In my working-class Cleveland, Ohio family, Sunday football was always a big event. One of my cousins was married to Lenny Dawson who would become a Hall of Fame quarterback. It was a rare Sunday during football season when we weren’t gathered around our TV or radio for the Cleveland Browns or the Kansas City Chiefs game (both if possible).

As we watched those games, I had no idea the political affiliation of any of the players and I certainly don’t recall any political discussions during the games (a rarity). We ate, the adults drank, some smoked, and we all felt a part of something both exciting and uniquely American.

I came to love the game. Seeing Jim Brown run down the field is as much a part of my youth as JFK’s inaugural address. I’m not equating their historical relevance. But, both inspired and encouraged my generation regardless of your race, religion or political affiliation. They were simply uplifting.

The NFL could have prevented this. Honestly, any competent employer would have. Employees do not have the right to alienate a business’ customer base, damaging the business that employs them. As an owner, you can respect your employees’ First Amendment rights without destroying your business. In fact, it could be argued that you are obligated to do so in defense of your other employees - who count on the jobs and incomes you provide - not to mention the investments your shareholders, franchisees or, in this case, team owners all make to build, operate and acquire these businesses.

I ran the company that owns the Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurant chains for almost 17 years. Along with our franchisees, we employed about 75,000 Americans and we...

The NFL is now a progressive left wing organization. They do not want to prevent this. Just camouflage it better.

Had any company employees decided to disrespect that flag in front of our customers, in our brand’s uniform and during their hours of employment, I would have encouraged our general managers to first warn them to stop and, if they refused, to fire them.

All they had to do was stop one person, Colon Krappernick, and it largely would have been forgotten by now.

Know what I think? The NFL standing down to it’s black players is like the American voter standing down to Barak Hussein. Put him in office and get it over with. The nation survived. Will the NFL? I think the fans will come back. The NFL can go BACK to commercial break after they decide the players made their point.

Ironic that Broncos are pictured: these SoBs CLEARLY deliberately threw the game against the Giants last Sunday. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I’ve been a rabid Broncos fan for over 40 years, but no more. I’m done.

Yep.

Letting the political correctness run rampant will cause more problems and trouble later. Nip it quickly. Let the snowflakes melt. Clean up the drip. And move on, before it becomes a blizzard.

Similar to not addressing North Korea when it should have been dealt with during Billy’s presidency. Or Iran.

“I think the fans will come back. “

i think a lot won’t. watching NFL football is a habit, and once the habit is broken and other activities take its place, many will not come back. it’s like switching grocery stores or one brand of goods for a new brand of goods. customers lost are usually customers lost for good, ESPECIALLY if the customer leaves pissed off.

Has it? The left is rapidly spinning itself into a full-on Communist revolution. The US military is so screwed up we have multiple warships crashing into cargo ships. The left is refusing to Trump full control of the government known criminals like Hillary are still above the law. We’re headed towards civil war.

>Will the NFL? I think the fans will come back. The NFL can go BACK to commercial break after they decide the players made their point.

Once an insulation goes full SJW it never comes back. The NFL had a very short window to purge the SJWs from their system and they blew it.

I am boycotting and not planning to return.

As recently as 1948, Afro-Americans were segregated on the battlefield. Now that they are not segregated and honorably serving within our armed forces, their commitment to Liberty is being challenged before every NFL game.

I have loved and supported the New Orleans Saints since 1966. We loved them though they won or lost and they lost a lot. Their half time shows were the best with Al Hirt, he was a little drunk but that was okay. They put on a great show in the old Tulane stadium. We loved them in New Orleans. They were our guys.

They actual won the Super Bowl a few years past which is absolute proof of divine intervention.

They took a knee last week. To me they and the whole damn NFL no longer exist. I am really beginning to like the National Hockey League, even the Canadians. They are pretty damn good.

Not every business has Joe Lockhart, Bill Clinton’s Press Secretary during the Monica affair, and also the Obama landlord as they moved from the Whitehouse. ...as their Communications Director as the NFL does.

I didn’t see any love in that piece.

Just kidding. But in this case, it is the OWNERS who get most of the credit for destroying their businesses.

so it’s a black thing for you? Let’s go back to 1948 - when segregation was eliminated by Executive Order. Why the segregation - because the gubment didn’t want to be accused of using blacks as “slave fodder” in a war some people thought black folk shouldn’t be fighting at all and so they were kept in support roles - the origins of PC. Thousands of blacks served in our Navy well before any world wars. Millions of blacks volunteered for service in both World Wars and played important and integral roles in support roles and in combat victories from India to France - all fighting under the same flag symbolizing the Union their own ancestors fought to preserve, the same flag players now disrespect over some made up buttpimple excuse for fake outrage.
