How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Donald

It is an article of faith among many that some of the most patriotic Americans are immigrants. Leaving one's country and culture in search of a better life has a way of clarifying the reasons for making such a consequential choice. The freedoms and opportunities we enjoy as native-born citizens, but can sometimes take for granted, are often even more deeply cherished by new Americans in their adopted homeland. Trading up carries with it a reminder of what one has lived down – and can be all the more meaningful for it.

In a similar way, it may also be true that the most passionate adherents to political ideology, or a candidate embodying such views, are those who have cast off an opposing party or politician they found wanting. Nothing brings into high relief the folly of one's voting choices like deep disillusionment with the elected officials or party in whom one has put one's trust.

Like the immigrant, then, for whom America matters even more when compared to the system they've fled, the lately anointed conservative may feel greater affinity for a core set of newly held beliefs, particularly in contrast to the liberal ideals he deserted. Rejecting something is purposeful. And not having a thing of value only makes the getting of it more valuable.

This is why the Cuban who fled Castro's fascist regime has great clarity – as does the Trump voter who abandoned Obama.

They both know full well what they escaped.

The silent minority of centrist, independent, or disenchanted liberal voters who threw over the Democratic Party in order to help put Trump over the top on election day may have been a crucial factor in Trump's win.

The headline makes it seem like Bird was anti-Trump before but the blog says Pennel voted for the President.

Plus it has that snarky reference to Dr. Strangelove.

I feel like the audience for American Thinker is narrow, so take its articles as only personal opinion, but what the guy is saying is this: like the convert knows more about his new religion than the one who grew up that way, those who fled obama to vote Donald are more ardent in their support. Not sure that’s true, but get where the sentiment originates.

...but he voted for Obummer, twice. And the author winces sometimes at the rhetoric of Trump...

President Trump does not make me wince.

I was the same way in 2016. NC primaries, and I was going to vote for Cruz. Then Trump shot him down with the NY Values comment and Cruz stupidly said that the Chicago riots were Trump’s fault and not the DNC’s (though it was proven later the DNC was paying for these mobs). Over the summer, I wondered about it and watched Hillary get slammed while the media acted like Trump was losing completely. Then I watched Hillary’s “slab of beef” moment and I knew it was over. I put a huge bet on FOREX against the peso and made buckets as the “Hillary win” descended into complete anarchy and then a Trump win election night.

We can still rewatch those moments and faces of TYT, MSNBC, and CNN. They’re wonderful.

I don’t just watch the moments. Occasionally, I’ll head on over to YouTube and watch the whole night again. I get particular joy watching the early hours of election night, where they’re all so giddy because they’re all so sure the Witch was going to win and then, of course, the utter despair on the faces of the feminists and metrosexual Hillary supporters at the Javits Center as they realize she isn’t going to win (or even show up).

Yeah, and 2018 and 2020 are only going to be worse, as pressure on illegal immigration fraud and Voter ID increase. Trump is going to collect the voter fraud info and present it before primaries, and then Voter ID will get passed. Various courts will challenge it, leading to an immediate supreme court invalidation.

Is there a quiet sea change at play in the heartland – one that involves re-assessing one's self-assumptions about party, ideology, and core beliefs? Just ask former Democrat and liberal talk show host Dave Rubin, who "left the left" because he sees the progressive movement devolving into authoritarianism.

The 'money quote'...

A ‘progressive’ starting to see liberal elites and ‘progressives’ for what they really are.

It’s not pretty.

Watch this youtube video of a well-known former ‘progressive’ explaining HOW HIS EYES WERE OPENED - it’s telling.
