It has been reported that Samantha Power, while serving as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, requested or initiated a request for more than 260 unmaskings of Americans whose conversations were picked up during surveillance. But today, according to Rep. Trey Gowdy, Power denied making anything close to that number of unmasking requests.
Here is what Gowdy told Fox News Bret Baier:
BAIER: You are also looking, and have talked to the former Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power. We reported that she requested or her officer requested 260 plus efforts to unmask, in other words, get who was talking about picked up in surveillance. How did she answer that question? Why so many?
GOWDY: Well, Ill tell you broadly, Bret, I think if she was on your show, she would say those attempt to unmask may have been attributed to her. But they greatly exceed, by an exponential factor, the number of requests that she actually made.
I assume Gowdy is accurately characterizing Powers testimony. I dont assume Power is telling the truth, but she may be.
If she is, I agree with Gowdy who also told Baier, Weve got to get to the bottom of that. Did the alleged unmaskings incorrectly attributed to Power actually occur? If so, who was responsible for them and how did the unmaskings come to be incorrectly attributed to Power?

I just called the 2000 number and left a message for Jeff Sessions. I emphasized the precedent factor with Hillary that if nothing is done, it will certainly happen again. What do we have to lose? Flood the system. A FReeper surge!
I dont know how many people I have to tell to please go read their Constitution today but frankly its sickening. Trey did his job AS ENUMERATED UNDER OUR CONSTITUTION . He isnt a prosecutor, he isnt a Judge, he isnt a jury, he isnt an executioner; he is a Congressman.
Now write a letter to this admin and its DOJ and ask why they havent issued subpoenas and rendered indictments.
I never thought Id be making these arguments in all places on FR
It still begs the questions: How many unmasks did she request ? of who ? and why ?
yes
“Strongly worded letter.” Sprayed with perfume and X0X0’s.
But he loves to change his hair to appear tough.
Another Gowdy hearing that will go nowhere.
Yes, but it starts at the top. It's the Obama administration, and the general leftist rationalization that anything they do is for ‘the common good’, and therefore acceptable - even if unethical and illegal, that are responsible.
Obama knew exactly what was going on, and approved of it - or encouraged it. When Maxine Waters bragged that ‘Obama has a database with information on everyone’, that was indicative of the attitude of the entire administration. People like that cannot be trusted to self-police. They just can't.
Valjar & Obama
Exactly. If she did not directly make 234 of the requests, then it follows that the only qualified person(s) to do those 234 are her direct reports who do so on her behalf, in theory. So, the question boils down to did those person(s) act properly, requesting on her behalf - in which case Power is still responsible for all 260, or request on their own - in which case they are in deep kimchee - and Power is still somewhere at fault for allowing this to happen on her watch out of her office.
Isn’t Gowdey aware that all he has to do is get he hard copy of the unmasking request and check the signature?
Ah. The Dindu Nuffin defense. Perfect.
Trey Gowdy is USELESS.
Thank you
You got that right......everything he says or does makes the other side look good. He let Hillary off the hook, Susan Rice got a pass from Gowdy...and now this.
If he cant defend our side, dump him.
Gladys is an interesting guy, but it is always lots of bluster and no action. Who has been held accountable in the IRS scandal? He promised the criminals would be. There are so many other examples. All talk. Thats what he is.
