A couple years ago a kid called in a bomb threat before graduation ceremony so her parents wouldn’t find out she would not be graduating because she didn’t enroll her senior year. Spent the money they sent her on having fun.

Having lived near Howard, all I can say is that they would save a lot of time and effort if they only reported when there wasn't a shooting in the area.

The funny thing is that DC has gotten a lot safer in the past 10-15 years. Nothing like back in the 90s.

To wit: there have been a total of 92 homicides in DC this year (13.506 per 100,000). Compare that rate to Baltimore (82.484 per 100,000).

Don't get me wrong, it's not that DC (or any city) is a safe place to leave the doors unlocked, but there are far, far worse places in the country.

While the murder rates in DC are down, the volume of “minor crimes” makes quality of life very low in many parts of the city.

We live way out in the country, and would never move back to a big city.
