There was a time when almost all leading scientists were religious or at least philosophical. But now many seem to dismiss it altogether. From what I’ve read, there’s been a desecularization of philosophy going on for many years now. Perhaps that’s why scientists are dumping philosophy.
You’d be surprised at how many scientists, especially mathematicians and physicists, have strong religious beliefs. I’ve met quite a few. Their work has convinced them that this can’t all be an accident. Stephen Hawking has his adherents, and I’m not saying that all the scientists who believe in God are practicing Jews or Christians, but some indeed are.
